Ok. This is freaking awesome. I started my first DIY project (more on that to come), my Momma is getting super wedding excited, and I have TWO wedding related appointments this week. How else would someone want to celebrate Valentine's Day than booking the church with priest? I know I don't know any other thing I would rather be doing - other than working on that DIY project!
So, Father Ed was just released from the rehabilitation center were he was being treating from an ACI injury (caused by a nasty fall). He agreed to meet with us tomorrow, but because he was gone for so long, over two months, he is jam packed. So he wants us over for tea at quarter of nine. In the evening. I feel uncomfortable even calling people's homes that late. But that is when he wants us, so that is when he has us!
Michael is excited that on Friday, we'll be visiting the reception location - which I will divulge you with details AFTER we book it.
I am so excited to post pictures of my DIY project later. I'll show you the step by step action. I have completed 10% of them - and look forward to working on them again tonight, tomorrow and geez, whenever I get a minute!

Momma Dukes!
A really great thing about my city is that it was the heart of manufacturing in the early 20th century, and we have a mill in nearly every section of town. One of these mills has been renovated to be a wedding/home center, and boy, it is always full of brides, moms and housewives.
Today, my mother and I (dressed in our cleaning sweats), took a quick drive to the mill to look for some new chip and dip platters for our Superbowl party (Go Patriots!). The moment Mom walked through the main foyer and saw the dozens of racks with the rainbow of MOB dresses, her mission was side tracked. Let me give you a little bio - my brother married just over a year ago, and it was HUGE and fancy. My parents are still trying to wind back down from all the excitement in that whirlwind. When Mike and I became engaged, Mom wasn't ready for the wedding plans. Even last week, when I mentioned booking the reception site, she had a partial meltdown. Us kids were both very close to our Mommy, and she is a bit reluctant to let go of her little girl.
So, back to the story - we walk into the boutique and BAM, mom sees her dream MOB dress. She's a sassy little thing, 5'6" and 110 pounds. She'd look great in anything... Then her eyes turned to a BM dress, and she then got the "Inspector Gadget" eye, where she was able to put the entire day together using my color palette. She saw the BM dress, the JBM dress, the flowergirl's gown, her dress and a gorgeous sweetheart table display.
I had to just DRAG HER OUT or the shops would close, and we'd never get to get those platters. So this was the first time I was able to walk away from a shop with a smile on my face knowing my mom was in celebration, and planning mode. She hasn't stopped talking ideas since... This will be a long 26 months!!
Some of mom's dream gowns:
She so wear this look well...
Minus the arm in the air.
How did this get in here?
Mom wore this gold gown to
my brother Timothy's wedding,
September 30, 2006.
This Keira Knightly look was at the shop.
She was all over it. But she wants to wear a brown.
She's very drawn to the mermaid style.
I think w/the Bridesmaid's dresses,
brown would be the most complimenting.
Any of you have a happy moment that brought out the excitement in those you love, ready to get preparations under order?
(side note: Go Patriots! And well, sorry for the loooong post!)

Location, location!
It was clear to my fiancé and I where our ceremony would be. I took all my major sacraments as a parishoner and I want to be a life long parishoner, as long as logistics allow. I love my church. So we're booking it on February 3rd, after mass. I am so excited to do so.
Here's a few pictures of my church, just picture us at the end of the aisle.

So pretty...
I picture garlands up the rails and a dove release in front of that gorgeous beauty. Might not be the most traditional looking of all churches, but it's the building I learned to live and love in God. No place in the world could rival its beauty to me.

Color my World
Chicago did it right. That's a good song. My parents first dance at their wedding was to this song. I love, love, love it. I hope to have my bridesmaids walk down the aisle to an instrumental version, as a surprise to my mommy.
As you read in the previous post, I've decided on brown, pink and hints of white and orange for my summer wedding. These colors are based on my most favorite color in the whole world - brown, and pink - the color of millions of flowers. Ok, maybe not millions! As I sit back and think of the look I want to create that day, I am thinking not as fancy and elegant as my brothers. His wedding was by far the most elegant and gorgeous event I have been to. My sister-in-law did it all right, from the centerpieces to how she treated the families and had everyone involved.
I still remember how delicious the sole tasted. Yum. Their wedding had lots of beautiful touches I will keep in the back of my mind for my special day, but I am going a little less elegant and a little more contemporary - with a rustic, country touch.
I want lots of flowers, with lots of curly willow. White floor length table linens with with napkins and a brown runner with a pink swirl embrodiered into that heavy fabric. I want portraits of me and my love showcased around the room and our cake a glow. No spot lights. I want uplighting. And you better believe I want a GOBO.

This is pretty much the look I want. Just with a taller vase.
The church - that's a surprise. It's all in this little brain of mine. Muahahahaha.. Oh, alright. I'll admit it. I need mental help. I am a bridezilla to the upteenth degree. :)
The name
When we told the world about our engagement, the first thing most people asked was "when is the wedding?" Of course, since my brother had just gotten married just eight months before we were engaged we didn't want to do anything wedding related other than celebrate our engagement. For a long time. However, this answer didn't suffice.
So then we decided to set a date. We liked the idea of a brown colored wedding. Ok, I liked the idea. Mike went along with the flow. A brown theme could be any time of the year, really depending only on the second color to pair it with. Being the girly girl I am, I would like to pair brown with different shades of pink. Blush, rose, hot pink, salmon... The whole lot. Maybe even throw in a bit of orange and white for good measure. This left us to one season really: Summer.
I'll admit, I was rooting silently for a June wedding. I like early summer in New England. So we looked at a calendar. We knew 2010 would give us enough wedding rest without being light years ahead. It was a toss up between June 19th and June 26th of 2010. The latter had a special ring to it. I realized it reminded me of the Mazda 626 and those pisser "zoom zoom" commercials. But I can't help it!
Fast forward two weeks. Mike's dad works with another newly engaged gent who was planning for a 2009 wedding. When he asked Mr. L. when we were getting married, my future FIL said "their planning for the year after you and Monique."
Jason's reply, "Oh, so Oh Ten."
I didn't know that it would be so funny. But if you ever met Jason, you'd know exactly why that was hilarious. So now, most times when I answer that question, I answer "June of Oh Ten."

Engaged
I've created this blog to document the planning and unplanning and planning again.
It's official. Well, it has been official for eight whole months now which is just fab. Who's the lucky guy? OhTenGroom Lubold, my awesome boyfriend of two years, fiancé of eight months. We're really lucky to have found each other, but let's not get into that story right away. Let's get to the juicy details most women dream about as a child: the proposal. Here goes!
As is customary with Michael and I on the weekends, we were with family at my grandmother's house. Mike had just returned from college, and my cousin Madison, who is four, was thrilled to have him home. She and Michael wanted to play a game of "hide and seek." When it was my turn to hide, I playfully hid in the spare bedroom. Mad and Mike were arguing, and I shouted for them to come find me. When Mad walked in the room, she rolled her eyes in that teenager way she likes to act and proclaimed, "Mike wants to know if you'll marry him." So I said, "of course, some day. He's my guy."
I then proceeded to find a new hiding place, and she followed, "no... He wants to MARRY you." He then walked over with a ring, pulled me to my feet and promised me forever with the ring he slipped on my finger. He then told me he went to my parents and they had given their blessing weeks before. He wanted to include the family as much as he could, and that made me feel giddy like a school girl, so of course, like every girl I ran to my mother and told her. Mike turned to me and said "but what's the answer?" Oops, kind of important to answer, right? Of course I said "YES!"
Here is the ring, with the Hope Diamond (the spec in the distance)
at the Smithsonian Institute. He did a good job!
